• THE ORONIR •
sometimes, you just gotta transcribe shitty screenshots of lorebook previews; The strongest tribe in the region, the Oronir currently occupy the Dawn Throne, having won the right to do so through their triumph in previous Naadams. Though the Mol claimed victory in the most recent of Contests, they had no interest in relocating and so the Oronir were free to remain where they were.
History
Historically, the Oronir have been one of the dominant tribes in the southeast [indecipherable] of the steppe. Unlike most Xaela, who believe themselves the children of the Dusk Mother, the Oronir trace their lineage to the Dawn Father, and believe it their duty to watch over and keep the Xaela safe. As direct descendants of the avatar of Azim, they believe themselves superior to other tribes —though said tribes are not wont to agree. Nevertheless, theirs are formidable warriors who have claimed the ovoo countless times in the Naadam, including the one prior to the Mol's most recent victory.
The hierarchy within the tribe is determined by the Azim Bükh, a wrestling competition which pits brother against brother. The strongest and therefore most worthy is then declared the most radiant brother and leader of the Oronir.
Magnai of the Oronir | Ahh, war. To wield power, to make men kneel before you. There is no better feeling.
A warrior of unparalleled strength, the most radiant brother of the Oronir excelled in both combat and hunting since the moment he could wield a weapon. Fircely proud of his heritage, this man of twenty and seven summers puts little store by words, believing great feats to speak for themselves, and indeed he has many to his name, which might lead some to consider him a heroic figure. However, despite (or because of) these qualities, he has struggled to reconcile his rather high expectations for a bride.
As a child, Magnai was a hopeless romantic fascinated with the legends surrounding the Oronir and their destined partners... their Nhaama. Though most of his brothers grew more pragmatic with age, the most radiant only became more preoccupied with this ideal, and deaf to the words of wisdom of his five elder sisters. Instead he continued to hone his skills, believing that the strength to split the earth asunder and smite fell beasts would surely attract the attention of his beloved-to-be, his gentle, ethereal maiden. To his credit, perhaps, Magnai is more than willing to take no for an answer, for he truly believes that were he to meet his Nhaama, they would not refuse him for even a moment.
Scale of the Father
This great axe has been passed down through generations of Oroniri leaders. Legend has it that the weapon was forged from one of Father Azim's scales of midnight, cast off from his armor during a duel with the Dusk Mother. To this day it [indecipherable] with the [indecipherable] light of the Dawn Father.
Baatu of the Oronir | We will be swift as stallions and fierce as baras. The steppe will be ours once more!
The right hand of the most radiant is fervently devout, fearing even to enter those places where the light of the Dawn Father cannot reach, such as the depths of the Azim Khaat. Its perhaps because of this shared faith, as well as their enduring friendship, that he has no difficulty speaking his mind to Magnai. Like many Oronir, Baatu tends to regard those of other tribes as his lesser, though he is quicker to recognize one's worth and afford them a measure of respect.
Though Baatu is but a year older than Magnai, he has been married for three years to a talented healer, whose skillful ministrations [indecipherable] him make a full recovery from the grave injuries he suffered in the last Naadam. Before they were wed, it was with some hesitation that he sought the most radiant's blessing, but to his surprise Magnai betrayed no sign of anger or resentment. Nevertheless, Baatu yearns daily that their leader might one day know his happiness.
